SR 4026, Section 01B, Replacement of Shartleville Road Bridge over Plum Creek, Berks Country, PA
The Shartleville Road Bridge project involved the replacement of an existing prestressed concrete adjacent beam bridge with a new adjacent PS box beam bridge and any associated roadway improvements. The bridge is located at about a half mile downstream of the State Route 4022 bridge which was also to be replaced at the same time. The existing bridge is classified as structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to aging and deterioration, and substandard alignment and profile. The new bridge has a widened bridge deck, improved safety features with new guide rails and end terminals, improved hydrological opening and approach roadway drainage, etc. Land acquisition and utility relocation were both required and channel diversion was used during the bridge construction.
